If you have just started skating, you have probably bought a pair of complete skates, with which you are trying to get some experience focusing on the fundamentals: maintaining balance, pushing, braking, cornering, cross step, etc. In fact, at this stage you don't need much else: some tools to carry out basic maintenance of your equipment and a bag to carry everything comfortably.

At that point, the protagonist of this short article will come into play: the wheel bag! In fact, you will find that keeping your wheels in a single container, together with the spacers and possibly the bearings, will allow you to manage your equipment more easily and keep it in perfect order. In some specialties (for example in figure skating), the sets of wheels that an athlete must have available are often 3 or more, in order to face competitions on all possible surfaces: concrete, tiles, parquet, etc. In this case, the bag in question becomes fundamental, also because in the pre-competition phases the time available for the set-up of one's equipment can be short, so it is preferable to be prepared and ordered.
How is it made?
It is a simple bag, generally made of polyester fabric, which is durable and easy to clean. The most used bags have the internal part divided into four compartments, each of which is able to accommodate 8 wheels, or a complete set for quad skates, for a total - therefore - of four sets, normally sufficient capacity for intermediate levels of preparation. . There is usually also space for some accessories: wheel nut wrench, spacers and possibly a set of bearings.
Tips
We recommend that you put inside your bag, in addition to your wheelset:- a universal wrench (wheel nut + steering adjustment nut).
- A set of spare bearings, cleaned and oiled, placed inside their original packaging (if available) or a plastic bag, to avoid dirtying the wheels and bag and to prevent them from coming into contact with moisture. If all your wheels are equipped with bearings, so much the better: an puller/press is not always available to remove and install them.
- If you use them, a spare set of spacers and a set of wheel lock nuts: the cost of these accessories is negligible, and in case you need them, their lack could create big problems for you.
- A small piece of 240 or 320 grit sandpaper, or Scotchbrite, to clean the surface of the wheels if necessary. Keep this accessory tightly closed in a plastic bag to avoid dispersing abrasive material in the bag.
